Arsenal could make an approach to sign AC Milan forward Rafael Leao suppose they can't finalise an agreement for Mykhaylo Mudryk.
The Gunners have identified the Ukrainian as their main attacking target, but they face an uphill battle of convincing Shakhtar to sell him.
They have made an opening bid of €60m including add-ons, but Shakhtar are said to be eyeing around €100m to sanction his departure.
Negotiations are still ongoing between the clubs but journalist Dean Jones claims that the Gunners have Leao as a potential alternative.
If they can't persuade Shakhtar to lower their valuation, the Gunners could turn their attention to Leao, who could be available for €80m.
Leao, who is also on the radar of London rivals Chelsea, has had a fine season for Milan with seven goals and nine assists from 20 games.
The Portuguese recently said that he likes the playing style at Arsenal and it remains to be seen whether the club will make a move for him.
