Chelsea want assurances from Arsenal target Mykhaylo Mudryk before making an approach for him this month.
The Ukrainian star has been touted to leave Shakhtar Donetsk during the ongoing transfer window amid interest from Arsenal and Chelsea.
The Gunners were the first to express their interest in the 21-year-old, but they have yet to meet Shakhtar's £88m valuation for his services.
On the other hand, Chelsea are ready to pay the fee over several instalments, but the Blues want a guarantee from the player first.
Mudryk has been publicly pushing for a move to the Gunners and there are suggestions that the Ukrainian will hold out for them.
The Blues are now aiming to speak with the player and want him to commit to them before they make an official transfer approach.
As things stand, Arsenal remain the favourites to land the young winger but the scenario could change if they resist paying the fee in the coming days.
