Roma to meet Inter in cup final

Roma are set to face Inter Milan in the final of the Coppa Italia afte rsecuring a 2-1 aggregate victory over Catania; and securing a 1-1 draw in tonight's semi-final to set up a clash between two of Serie A's best two clubs.

  • Roma started out the game with a display of silky attacking possession football, but could not convert their chances. Christian Panucci had a glorious opportunity to put Roma in front from a header.



    Portuguese midfielder Antunes was looking very dangerous for Roma as he fired a flurry of shots at the Catania goal.



    In the 26th minute, Man Utd target Alberto Aquilani stepped up from the penalty spot to fire home and put Roma in front.



    Catania knew they needed three goals to qualify for the final, and fired themselves back into the game in the 29th minute as Cristian Silvestri fired in from a free kick.



    In the second half, Perrotta and Aquilani both had glorious chances to extend the aggregate lead for Roma but failed.



    Substitute Mauro Esposito had an excellent chance to make it 2-1 in the 72nd minute but he fired wide when given a great opportunity.



    The game finished all square at 1-1 to see Roma through as they secured ther fourth consecutive Coppa Italia final.
