Chelsea have confirmed that Malo Gusto has returned from his loan spell at Lyon after suffering a long-term hamstring injury.
The Frenchman joined the Blues on a permanent basis from Lyon last month, but he was immediately loaned back to the Ligue 1 side.
However, he has now returned to Cobham early after picking up a serious hamstring injury. He will be out for around 10 weeks.
It is likely that he may not play again for Les Gones. Chelsea could handle him with caution such that he can return for pre-season.
Chelsea have had a horrendous Premier League campaign and they are currently lying 10th, 10 points behind the top four.
They look set to miss out on the Champions League next season and this could be a huge blow for the club going forward.
Despite the huge spending, the Blues have avoided Financial Fair Play sanctions, but things could be different in the summer.
If they don't qualify for the Champions League, the Blues may have to sell some of their prized assets in order to balance their books.
