Norway starlet on Man City radar

Man City linked with Norwegian prospect Andreas Schjelderup

29 July 2023 - 08:56

Andreas Schjelderup is a name unfamiliar to many, but likely to be very well known in the coming years. The Norway under-21 international only recently made a move to Benfica but has already emerged as a possible transfer target for Manchester City, who are on the look out for dynamic attacking midfield players comfortable playing on the wing.

  • Chelsea have just signed Brazilian star for £60m
  • Arsenal won't pay more than €70m for Benjamin Sesko

  • It is understood that the 19-year-old has been heavily scouted by Man City in recent months, after he made his full debut for current club Benfica in the Portuguese top flight. Most of this season the Bodo-born midfielder has played for Benfica's B team, but his impressive form meant a promotion to the first-team squad ahead of schedule. Schjelderup started his career with hometown club Bodo/Glimt before a transfer to Nordsjaelland. There, he played 55 games and scored 17 goals in two seasons, catching the eye of Europe's top clubs.

Man City have a void to fill in their squad with the departure of Riyad Mahrez yesterday, and although Schjelderup is unlikely to be an immediate starter at the Etihad, he will be given at least a season to progress through the club's youth and reserve teams if a transfer is wrapped up this summer.

Benfica currently value the Norwegian player at around 20 million euros.
