Adriano contemplated Suicide

Adriano contemplated Suicide

14 May 2008 - 06:57

The Brazilian and Inter Milan striker Adriano actually contemplated suicide during the difficult period in his life last year, according to the player’s mother.

  • Chelsea midfielder looking forward to London derby vs Spurs

  • Adriano is currently nearing the end of his 6-month loan spell at Brazilian giants Sao Paulo and is also climbing steadily to his best form in months. This comes just after 18 months of personal trauma when the much-criticized Brazilian striker failed to cope with his father’s death and a breakup with his girlfriend.

At the time Adriano decided to drown himself into alcohol and was also dragged down into the bottomless abyss of depression. His form at Inter Milan dipped sharply downward and he was discarded from the Inter Milan squad at the start of the season for the UEFA Champions League.

Thereafter Adriano slipped into more agony and even his mother’s presence in Milan failed to arrest the rot. It was only after Inter decided to offload the player on loan to Sao Paulo on a six-month rehabilitation programme that Adriano began to see sense.

Adriano mother’s now came out with the inside story and has been quoted as saying to Bandeirantes:

“He was depressed and had difficult times after his father’s death and other things. He even thought about killing himself.

“The Press surrounded our house and their criticism really got him down.

“He was quite young when he went to play in Italy and he felt alone there without anyone close to him.”

Adriano is due to return to Inter Milan in the summer but it is speculated that Inter Man would like to get rid of the player for good. Adriano has of course recovered his old touch somewhat in Brazil and is among the goals frequently but doubts remain on whether he can control himself when he reenters Milan and its nightlife in the summer.
