Manchester United reportedly reached an agreement to sign Palmeiras midfielder Gabriel Menino in the last transfer window.
The Red Devils were on the hunt for a holding midfielder in the back end of the summer and they looked at different transfer options.
Sofyan Amrabat was eventually signed from Fiorentina on an initial loan. The club have the option to purchase him for €25m next summer.
It is now reported that United were also in negotiations with Palmeiras for Menino and an official bid of €10m was accepted by the club.
However, United did not progress with the signing due to many factors. One of those could be the difficulty in securing a work permit for him.
The other could be Erik ten Hag's preference for Amrabat. The Dutchman was determined to be reunited with the Moroccan at any cost.
This was the reason behind United paying a huge loan fee of €10m. That was the only way they could convince Fiorentina into a deal.
