Manchester United and Manchester City are keeping a close watch on the performances of Benfica wonderkid Joao Neves.
The Red Devils currently have Casemiro, Sofyan Amrabat (loan) and Scott McTominay as their defensive midfielders, but there could be an overhaul next summer.
Casemiro has had a poor second season with the club and has become injury-prone. On the other hand, Amrabat has failed to adapt to the intensity of the Premier League.
McTominay also faces an uncertain future, considering his poor defensive awareness. There could be a midfield overhaul and Neves could be signed by the Red Devils.
The 19-year-old is regarded as one of the best young defensive midfielders in world football and he has been tipped to leave Benfica for a bigger challenge soon.
He currently has a release clause worth €120m in his contract but Benfica will need to be convinced to lower the fee. City should provide strong competition for his services.
