Arsenal want to sign Diomande

Arsenal to closely watch Ivorian star at AFCON

02 January 2024 - 20:57

Arsenal are expected to monitor the performances of Sporting Lisbon defender Ousmane Diomande at the African Cup of Nations.

  • Chelsea striker joins Fatih Karagumruk on loan
  • Confirmed Chelsea line-up (4-2-3-1) vs Brentford, Estevao absent

  • The 20-year-old is one of the best upcoming centre-backs and Arsenal have been looking to sign him for some period of time.

They were initially keen on his signature when he was with Midtjylland but Sporting won the race for his services last winter.

The Gunners returned with a €35m bid last summer, but Sporting were clear that they had no plans of selling him for that price.

The Primeira Liga giants pointed out that his €80m release clause will need to be triggered and they share the same stance this winter.

Despite this, Arsenal are continuing their scouting mission on Diomande and will be scouting his performances at AFCON.

Arsenal are likely to play the waiting game until the summer before negotiating a lower fee with the Portuguese club.

Diomande is said to be excited by the prospect of moving to the Premier League and is aware of the interest from Arsenal.
