Juan Manuel Vargas has emerged as a shock target for Bernd Schuster and Real Madrid this summer. The Catania left-back has been one of his sides best performers this year in Serie A.

The player is expected to be allowed to leave for a fee in the region of around £2.5 million if Catania allow him to make a move.



Since joining from Colon in 2006, Vargas has improved considerably, proving his more than capable of playing in the top flight of a big division in Europe.



Vargas is valued at around £7 million by his club.
