Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has urged the hierarchy to make a fresh approach for Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong this summer.
The Dutchman was keen on a reunion with his compatriot in 2022. United agreed a transfer package with the Blaugrana, but the midfielder refused to negotiate personal terms. He was more than happy to stay.
It is now claimed by Mundo Deportivo that Ten Hag has not given up on signing his former Ajax star. He will ask for the midfielder's signature when the transfer window reopens in the near future.
Ten Hag believes he is currently lacking a 'structural' midfielder in the squad and feels De Jong would be perfect for him. Meanwhile, Barcelona are open to parting ways with the 26-year-old for a good offer.
The big stumbling block is the player himself. De Jong is not looking to pursue a new challenge away from Barcelona. He plans to stay for another year. His current deal expires at the end of the 2025/26 season.
