Malouda: I'm worth my pricetag

19 May 2008 - 12:40

Chelsea winger Florent Malouda believes that he has justified the hefty £15 million that his club paid for him when he arrived from France last summer. Malouda has helped Chelsea to the final of the Champions League.

  • Chelsea ready new contract for star midfielder
  • Chelsea make first move to sign Xabi Alonso
  • He said: "I've never doubted my own ability or whether I could make my mark in this league. I've always been confident in myself.

"But it's not down to me. It's the coach's choice. All I can do is keep trying as hard as I can to be ready to play if he selects me. You have to be right mentally and give your all. It's just the coach's decision. You have to accept what he does and keep working hard in training. You have to be prepared - and I am.

"If an opportunity arises, you have to take it. I came here to win trophies and, this week, I will have the chance to do that. That's why I came to Chelsea.

"You have to be strong and make sure you're ready. If your chance comes, you have to take it. To be honest, it's what I expected at a club like Chelsea. You don't come here expecting to play every week. I've never said I was frustrated - this may be new to me, but it's all part of playing at a big club with a large squad.

"There are going to be players who aren't involved, who stay at home, and I expected that. I'm surrounded by players who are just as competitive and want to play every week, but that's the way it works at clubs like this."
