Manchester United have been credited with an interest in signing Dayot Upamecano from Bayern Munich this summer.
The Red Devils are on the hunt for a new centre-back with Raphael Varane expected to leave on a free transfer in July.
Upamecano has been linked with the club over the years and L'Equipe claim that he could consider a new challenge elsewhere.
The Frenchman has been a key player for the Bundesliga heavyweights, but he could be open to a change of surrounding.
United are said to be among his admirers and they could make an approach for his services when the transfer window reopens.
The Red Devils are unlikely to spend big on marquee players this summer and the focus is on signing players aged 25 or below.
Upamecano would fit into their requirements. He is only 25 years of age and could be signed for a fee of around €45m.
United are bound to face competition for him with a number of other Premier League clubs also needing centre-backs.
