Borussia Dortmund manager Thomas Doll has decided to quit the club with immediate effect. The 42 year old was called to a meeting and the club accepted his resignation.

  • "Thomas Doll secured our safety in the Bundesliga comfortably last year and, through reaching the DFB-Pokal final, he has enabled the club to play in the UEFA Cup next season and it is this which remains from his work," read a press release from the club.

16 points in 9 games secured a mid-table finish for Dortmund, but this was not enough to persuade the boss to stay.

Doll only joined Dortmund in March 2007.
