West Ham are to sign one of South America's best young midfielders in completing a deal for Palmeiras' midfielder Lucas Guilherme. The Aracaju-born player will join the Hammers as there remains uncertainty over the long-term future of Luis Paqueta, who could be in trouble after accusations of match-fixing after unusual patterns were detected on betting exchanges.
Guilherme is comfortable playing as a winger or central midfielder, but perhaps the player's preferred position is as a right-sided attacker, adding additional depth to the Hammers' squad. However, the Irons hope that the Brazilian can play as an attacking central midfielder as required.
The player came through the ranks at home team Palmeiras, eventually making his debut in 2023 for the club's first-team squad. He has since gone on to appear over 24 times, and played 9 times in total for Brazil's under-17 and under-20 sides.
The youngster is some way off of Brazil's first-team, but is hopeful a move to the Premier League will provide the visibility and opportunity to make the step up.
It is understood West Ham will pay around £30 million to secure a transfer.
