Wolves have pipped multiple clubs to the signing of Portuguese wing-back Rodrigo Gomes on a long-term contract. The player, who is contractually bound to Braga, spent last season on loan at Estoril and impressed during that spell. Wolves will pay around £12 million to sign the 20-year-old.
It is understood that Premier League rivals Bournemouth and Ipswich Town had tabled offers for the player, but Wolves' Portuguese connections appear to have swayed the 5 foot 9 defender to move to Molineux. Atletico Madrid were also outsiders in a move for the player, but could not meet Braga's valuation.
Rodrigo Gomes has appeared at every youth level for Portugal, from under-16's to under-21's, for whom he has most recently appeared. The player is said to be close to full international honours and wants to move to England to boost his chances of full recognition.
Gomes is seen as a versatile player, who is extremely comfortable playing as a winger or as a defender, but his preferred position is further up the pitch making an attacking contribution.
