Brentford have reportedly beaten Chelsea in the race to sign Leeds United midfielder Archie Gray this summer.

The 18-year-old had a superb breakthrough campaign with the Whites last term and he was almost ever-present in the XI.

The youngster is a defensive midfielder by trade, but the majority of his appearances came from the right-back position.

His versatility is definitely a huge plus. Chelsea were keen on landing him, but they have been priced out by Brentford's bid.

The Blues were hoping to land him for a discount, but that is no longer possible with an ambitious move from their rivals.

The Bees have agreed a deal worth £35 million for the teenage sensation and they are on course to land his signature soon.

Leeds would ideally want a formal transfer before the end of the month such that they can recoup funds to balance their books.

The news is a huge blow for the Blues. They were very optimistic of securing his services from Leeds earlier this week.
