Chelsea have reached an agreement to sign Basel left-back Renato Veiga this summer, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The Blues have been exploring a new left-back in the transfer market and they were initially interested in landing Riccardo Calafiori from Bologna.
However, they could not agree terms with the Italian amid interest from Arsenal. The Gunners are close to sealing the deal for his services.
Amidst this, the Blues have turned their attention to Veiga, who joined Basel from Sporting last summer. He is expected to sign by the weekend.
Veiga was given permission to leave Basel's training ground earlier today and he is expected to undergo his medical tests in the coming hours.
He is set to become the club's fifth signing of the summer transfer window after the arrivals of Tosin Adarabioyo, Omari Kellyman, Marc Guiu and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall.
Chelsea have changed their transfer policy over the past few months and it seems quite clear that they are not prepared to pay over the odds for any player.
