The Netherlands international has already agreed terms with the Red Devils and Bayern are more than prepared to part ways with him.
Talks are advanced between the clubs over the transfer package and it is claimed by Bild that an agreement is within sight.
United are looking to be ambitious in the current transfer window and they are aiming to sign two central defenders for the manager.
De Ligt is the number one target for the Red Devils while the club are also pushing to land the services of Leny Yoro from Lille.
They have agreed a deal worth £42m with the French outfit for the wonderkid, but he is currently waiting for Real Madrid.
