Inter Milan defender Denzel Dumfries was keen on joining Manchester United during the summer transfer window, according to Corriere dello Sport.
The Netherlands international has been long linked with a move to Old Trafford and it was claimed this summer that intermediaries were in contact with United regarding the right-back.
However, a deal did not materialise between the clubs. United decided to sign Noussair Mazraoui from Bayern Munich despite having the opportunity to land Dumfries from the Nerazzurri.
United paid a fee in the region of £13m for the Moroccan ace. On the contrary, the Nerazzurri were eyeing close to £25m for Dumfries which seemed beyond the reach of United.
Dumfries was also on the radar of Aston Villa, but he reportedly turned down their interest. He was waiting for the Red Devils instead, but an offer never came during the transfer window.
The Dutchman is now expected to put pen-to-paper on a new long-term contract with the Serie A holders. His current deal is due to expire at the end of the season.
