Ruben Amorim explains Bruno Fernandes substitution vs Forest

07 December 2024 - 21:10

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has explained the reason behind substituting Bruno Fernandes against Nottingham Forest.

  • Arsenal make surprise decision on Viktor Gyokeres
  • Arsenal to battle Napoli to sign Alexsandro Ribeiro?

  • The Red Devils suffered a 3-2 Premier League defeat to Forest at Old Trafford earlier today where they were defensively vulnerable.

Fernandes had a poor game when it came to ball control, but he was brilliant in an attacking sense and scored a wonderful second goal.

Despite this, Amorim made the decision to replace him at 3-2 and when asked for the reason, the Portuguese said that Fernandes was too tired.

He said: "Bruno [Fernandes] was too tired and I wanted [Mason] Mount to play that position of second midfielder who opens a bit on the left."

United have now suffered back-to-back league losses under Amorim and they are languishing in the 13th spot with just 19 points on the board.

The club are already eight points behind the top four and their prospects of qualifying for the Champions League are pretty slim at the moment.

United have a tough spell coming up with Manchester City, Newcastle United and Liverpool to face over the next month. Things could get worse if they don't improve their defensive resolve.
