Celtic win SPL title

Celtic win SPL title

22 May 2008 - 21:50

Celtic were crowned the champions of the Scottish Premier league on Thursday night, after Rangers slumped to a 2-0 defeat to Aberdeen, whilst Celtic defeated Dundee United by 1-0.

  • Omari Hutchinson wants to continue at Ipswich Town

  • The loss of their advantage in the SPL race caps off a miserable week for the side, who lost in the final of the UEFA Cup in Manchester to Zenit.

Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink scored Celtic's winner, and Rangers will feel a little hard done by after being asked to play their last six games in 19 days; an almost impossible task for any side under manned such as Rangers.

Rangers had twice denied their bitter rivals on the final day of the season in recent years, clinching the title on goal difference in 2003 and then against all the odds in 2005 when the helicopter carrying the SPL trophy famously changed direction.

This time, it was all bitter for Rangers.
