Real Madrid could sign Benfica defender Alvaro Carreras on the cheap with the help of Manchester United, according to Spanish outlet AS.
The La Liga giants have already recruited Dean Huijsen from Bournemouth to bolster their defence. Talks are underway with Liverpool to negotiate Trent Alexander-Arnold's release before the Club World Cup.
Alongside the duo, Madrid are ready to commit to a deal for Carreras. The 22-year-old presently has a huge release clause worth €60 million in his contract with Benfica.
However, Los Blancos plan to sign him on the cheap with the help of United, who have the option to re-sign their graduate for €18m this summer.
Madrid want United to activate the clause before negotiating a discounted transfer. A deal worth €30-35m could be agreed between the clubs.
Carreras has already given the green light for a move to the Bernabeu. He could be integrated into the squad ahead of the Club World Cup in the US.
