Newcastle United have now joined Arsenal in the race to sign Espanyol goalkeeper Joan Garcia this summer, as per Sport.
The Gunners are long-term admirers of the Spaniard and they were keen on signing him from the La Liga outfit last summer.
The club were reluctant to pay his £25m release clause before the deadline, and they plan to make a fresh approach next month.
However, they face a huge stumbling block this time around.
Garcia was happy to accept a deputy role last season, but he is now determined to play regular first-team football.
As a result, Arsenal seem unlikely to sign him. He could end up joining the Magpies, who can guarantee him regular starts.
The Tyneside outfit recently qualified for the Champions League and that is another big incentive for the Spaniard to join.
Barcelona are also keen on landing his signature, but the Magpies are ready to offer the 24-year-old a significantly higher salary.
