Nottingham Forest have completed a move for Brazilian defender Cuiabano from Botafogo, with the left-back finally ended Nuno's hunt for a defender this summer. It is understood that Brighton were the other side in the race for Cuiabano, but having undergone a medical and agreed terms today, there had only been one option for the full-back.
Forest have been busy so far in the transfer window, and in Cuiabano they have added a powerful defender to their ranks at an apt time considering the 3-0 defeat to West Ham last weekend. The 22-year-old has signed a five year contract at his new club.
It is understood that Forest may have paid around £21 million for their latest signing.
Forest attempted to strengthen at left-back in the final days of the window and, with other targets proving complicated, turned back to a player they already controlled an option on. Cuiabano brings direct, aggressive wide play- he overlaps like a winger, drives the byline, and has experience higher up the flank - while still offering the recovery pace and tenacity needed to defend in space. That blend gives Forest tactical flexibility: natural width in a back four, or a true up-and-down threat as a wing-back.
