Chelsea offered Manchester United the opportunity to sign Romeo Lavia in a swap deal for Alejandro Garnacho last summer, according to ESPN.
The Blues signed Garnacho from the Red Devils for £40 million on deadline day last summer, but they could have signed him in a different deal.
ESPN claim that the Blues were ready to offer Lavia in a straight-swap for Garnacho, but the Red Devils were not keen on such an agreement.
United were well aware of the Belgian's injury record over the last few seasons and turned down the chance to sign Lavia in a swap transfer.
The decision has proved worthwhile for United. Lavia has had limited playing time and he is presently on the sidelines with yet another injury.
Chelsea won't be disappointed either. They eventually signed Garnacho in a cash deal and the Argentine has made an instant impact on proceedings.
Garnacho has four goal contributions from 10 appearances so far.
