Chelsea are reportedly keen on landing Lazio defender Mario Gila during the upcoming winter transfer window.
The Blues did not sign a new centre-back last summer as the hierarchy were happy with the options in the squad.
However, they could make an investment at the start of the year amid the discontent from manager Enzo Maresca.
Maresca is unhappy with the lack of backing from the board and wants at least one defensive signing onboard this winter.
Gila has now emerged as a potential target, as per Il Messaggero.
However, it won't be an easy challenge to prise him away, given Lazio have been tough negotiators for some period of time.
The Serie A outfit could demand at least €40 million for the 25-year-old, and may not provide a discount on the figure.
The club may also want the majority of the fee upfront. It is left to be seen whether the Blues will meet their demands.
