Manchester United have made contact with the representatives of Al-Hilal midfielder Ruben Neves regarding a potential transfer this month.
The Red Devils are determined to bolster their defensive midfield department and Neves has been earmarked as a top target by the hierarchy.
Talks are underway with his agents, but a deal won't be easy to secure despite the fact that his contract with Al-Hilal expiring at the end of the season.
Al-Hilal are prepared to sell him for around £17.5 million this winter, but Neves has his sights on playing Champions League football in his career.
He has his sights on competing for the European title before he turns 30, and this could derail United's prospect of landing his services this winter.
Tottenham Hotspur are likewise keen on landing his services. The north London giants could have a big advantage in the player's pursuit.
They are involved in the Champions League unlike United, and it could be sufficient to prise the Portuguese away from Al-Hilal this month.
