Manchester United defender Diogo Dalot has said that the Red Devils were handed a big disadvantage after a late red card against Brighton & Hove Albion in the FA Cup third round on Sunday.
The Red Devils bowed out of the famous old competition after a 2-1 loss to the Seagulls at Old Trafford. Benjamin Sesko scored a late consolation goal for the hosts before Shea Lacey's sending off.
Speaking after the game, Dalot said that United created enough to win the game, and the late red card gave a disadvantage when the club were on top.
He said: "We created enough to win the game to be honest. Then the red card gave us a disadvantage because we were on top of Brighton in the last moments."
With the loss, United are guaranteed to finish the campaign without a trophy and they face a huge task on their hands to qualify for European football for the 2026/27 campaign.
The club are currently three points adrift of the final Champions League spot, and face a big challenge with back-to-back games against Manchester City and Arsenal, home and away.
