Manchester United are prepared to open contract talks with midfielder Kobbie Mainoo in the next few weeks, according to Manchester Evening News.
The England international had a difficult first half of the season under manager Ruben Amorim, who preferred Bruno Fernandes in a central midfield position alongside Casemiro.
This led to suggestions that he could push for a loan departure, but the situation has completely changed with Amorim's dismissal from the helm.
Mainoo has been reinstated into the starting XI alongside Casemiro with the change from the 3-4-2-1 system to the traditional 4-2-3-1 set-up.
Bruno Fernandes has played as the attacking midfielder.
Mainoo has been a revelation in the heart of the midfield under interim boss Michael Carrick, and the club are prepared to open contract talks.
Negotiations will get underway with the player's representative with the view to finalising a long-term contract before the end of the season.
Mainoo's recent resurgence under Carrick gives him an outside chance of making England's squad for the World Cup in North America.
