Tottenham Hotspur have made the decision to part ways with manager Thomas Frank ahead of the north London derby against Arsenal later this month.
Spurs have had a dismal campaign thus far and they recently suffered their 11th defeat of the Premier League season after a 2-1 loss to Newcastle United.
As a result, Spurs are languishing 16th in the standings with 29 points, just five adrift of the drop zone. This has forced the club to sack Frank.
The players have been given five days off from training in order to provide time for the hierarchy to appoint a new interim manager at the helm.
Spurs' next game will be against Arsenal at home on February 22. The Gunners have three more matches before the north London derby.
Hence, Spurs have an evident advantage over their arch-rivals and it remains to be seen whether they can capitalise on the long break.
John Heitinga is reportedly an outside candidate to take charge.
