Gamberini replaces Cannavaro

Alessandro Gamberini has been called up to join the Azurri to replace captain Fabio Cannavaro.

  • Cannavaro was ruled out of the Euro 2008 squad after sustaining a knock while training. He damaged his ligaments and is currently treated by doctors.

    Gamberini plays for Fiorentina and he had a great season for them appearing 40 times in Seria-A and the Uefa Cup. The 26-year-old has two caps for Italy, and he started in his debut in a friendly against South Africa.
