Manchester United have earmarked Villarreal midfielder Pape Gueye as a potential replacement for Casemiro at the end of the ongoing campaign.
The Red Devils are poised to bolster their holding midfield department with Casemiro set to depart at the expiry of his contract on June 30.
The club have been linked with numerous names and Foot Mercato now claim that Gueye has emerged as an ideal target to replace the Brazilian.
The Senegal international is highly regarded by United's hierarchy and they could make a very tempting offer for his services in the summer.
Gueye signed for Villarreal on a free transfer from Marseille and has since established himself as a key player for the La Liga outfit in all competitions.
He has been instrumental in their push for another top-four finish in La Liga. The club could then open the door for a big-money transfer for the midfielder.
They could hold out for at least £35m to part ways with the 27-year-old.
