Manchester United have been told that they need to pay at least £80 million to sign West Ham United midfielder Mateus Fernandes this summer, according to The Times.
The Red Devils are expected to make multiple midfield signings. Casemiro is on his way out on a free transfer this month, while Manuel Ugarte is poised to be offloaded too.
Atalanta's Ederson has already agreed on personal terms with the Mancunian giants, and it is claimed that he could join Michael Carrick's side within the next few days.
Alongside him, United have a genuine interest in landing Fernandes, but a deal appears unlikely on the cards with the Hammers reluctant to lower their asking price.
United were hoping to sign him for around £40m with the Hammers' relegation to the second tier, but the east London outfit are adamant on their £80m price.
Arsenal have likewise received a setback in the pursuit of the Portuguese star and may have to look elsewhere to bolster their first-team squad.
