Manchester United have identified Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Joao Gomes as a potential target, according to Globo Esporte.
The Red Devils have already signed Andrey Santos from Chelsea to bolster their midfield. An announcement will be made for the Brazilian this weekend.
Alongside him, Ederson was widely expected to join, but United have pulled out of the transfer deal due to concerns over a recent knee injury.
Globo claim that Gomes has now emerged as an alternative to the Atalanta star. The Brazilian ace is widely expected to leave Wolves after their top-flight relegation.
Atletico Madrid were initially deemed favourites to land the midfielder, but they have decided to sign Morten Hjulmand from Sporting CP instead.
Gomes is still attracting plenty of interest. It is claimed that United could compete with Liverpool to sign the highly-rated defensive midfielder.
Wolves are expected to demand around 40 million pounds for the 25-year-old, who is eager to play for another Premier League outfit next term.
