Manchester City remain keen on landing Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez before the transfer window closes on September 1.
The Blues recently opened the door to sell Fernandez for £120 million and set a deadline until Friday last week to sanction his sale.
Man City had no plans to meet the reported valuation, but this has not necessarily ended the saga involving the Argentine.
The Cityzens continue to remain interested in the World Cup winner and it is claimed that the player wants to reunite with manager Enzo Maresca.
Maresca also shared a fond bond with the 25-year-old during their time at Chelsea and a big-money offer could be made soon.
Man City are unlikely to pay the reported £120m price tag and they are optimistic to land his signature for a much lesser fee.
If they can't strike an agreement with the Blues for Fernandez, the club have their sights on landing Roma star Manu Kone.
