Newcastle United are set to complete the signing of Matias Fernandez-Pardo from Lille in a deadline-day deal worth 60 million euros, according to BBC Sport.
The move is understood to be well advanced, with a contract already agreed between the player and Newcastle. A medical is also under way, allowing the transfer to move towards completion before the window closes.
Lille are expected to sell Fernandez-Pardo to the Premier League club for the agreed fee, giving Newcastle a major late addition on a busy final day of the market. The deal comes as Nick Woltemade departs St James Park, creating movement in Newcastle’s squad at a key point in the window.
Fernandez-Pardo’s proposed arrival would represent a significant investment by Newcastle, with the 60 million euro package making him one of the most notable deals of deadline day. With personal terms already understood to be in place, the remaining steps are expected to centre on the medical and final administrative formalities.
Newcastle have acted quickly to line up the Lille player, and the timing of the agreement suggests the club view him as an important part of their plans for the season ahead. Lille, meanwhile, are set to receive a substantial fee if the deal is completed as expected.
The transfer has not yet been formally announced, but the key elements appear to be in place. Should the medical proceed without issue, Fernandez-Pardo is poised to make the move to England and join Newcastle before the deadline passes.
Further confirmation from the clubs is now awaited as Newcastle push to finalise the signing at St James Park.
