Terim had declared that he would like to end his second spell with the national side and return to club football soon. The Turkish federation is hoping to convince Terim to stay until the 2010 World Cup.

The federation president, Hasan Dogan, said that Terim has to remain with the national side and lead them to the 2010 World Cup.

He said to the federation's official website,

"At this moment in time, Terim is at the helm of the national side and, God willing, he will be so until 2010."
