Alan Shearer will be taking charge at Newcastle with his former Southampton team-mate Iain Dowie as his assistant manager.

  • Newcastle United is yet to confirm the appointment of its former star striker, Alan Shearer, as the boss. But, latest reports from inside suggest that Shearer will be handed the reigns to help Newcastle remain in the top flight.

Dowie is a Sky Sports pundit and had managed teams like Oldham, Coventry, Charlton and QPR. Although Shearer is a rookie in management, Dowie's experience will surely help him. He might also appoint his former Newcastle colleague, Rob Lee, in his backroom staff at St.James's Park.

Terry Venables, the former England boss, said that Shearer is the man to help Newcastle United. Venables is a keen admirer of Shearer, having known him from the England's World Cup and Euro campaigns.

"Having managed him with England I know what an influence he can be on players and for that alone, he has a great future in the game. " said Terry
