Alonso to Real Madrid still on?

19 July 2009 - 18:02

Real Madrid might finally be able to sign Xabi Alonso by next week for £30M, much less than Liverpool's asking price for the Spaniard. The Los Blancos are considering many other options including Arsenal captain Fabregas, Roma's De Rossi and also to buy back Esteban Granero.

  • Xabi Alonso transfer saga is still on - Spanish newspapers say. Barcelona based daily, Sport, report that the transfer will happen next week with Real Madrid officials said to be in England to tie up the deal.

Real Madrid had not been able to match Liverpool's high asking price for the 28-year old. However, by next week, the Reds can afford to sell him at a lower price as they wont' need to pay a part of it to Real Sociedad - Alonso's previous club.

The Los Blancos might strike a deal that would see Alonso joining them and Sneijder going the other way. If the deal does not happen, the Madrid side might re-sign Esteban Granero, a Castilla player who now plays for Getafe.

A few other options Florentino Perez have are Arsenal captain Fabregas and Roma's Daniele de Rossi.
