'He could wear a £2,000 suit and still look like a sack of spuds!' Chelsea Flower Show viewers slam Monty Don on Twitter for his 'skew-whiff' tie
- The presenter, 61, opted for more formal attire to present the BBC coverage
- ...but in spite of his efforts, viewers said Monty still made the suit look untidy
- On Twitter, viewers commented that it was odd seeing him in a sharper-look suit
- One suggested that he looked like 'he'd borrowed his dad's demob suit'
Monty Don's gardening credentials are never under question; he is a green-fingered god for many of those tuning into this week's coverage of the RHS Chelsea Flower Show.
However, when it comes to sartorial choices, the 61-year-old is found wanting according to viewers of last night's coverage from the Royal Hospital Chelsea.
With his red tie 'skew-whiff' and his blue collar infringing on the navy blue lapel of his jacket, Monty found himself prey to fashion analysis on Twitter.

Gardening king Monty Don was on the receiving end of criticism because of his 'skew-whiff' tie after presenting the open day of BBC Two's coverage of the Chelsea Flower Show
While co-presenter Joe Swift was also mocked for his 'schoolboy tie', it was Monty, 61, who bore the brunt of viewers' criticism
His collar's making a run for it! Monty ditched his usual baggy linen suit in favour of a more fitted affair
The gardener, who replaced Alan Titchmarsh as the Chelsea Flower Show's main host in 2014, wore a loose navy suit to present the launch show from London's SW3.
One viewer, @peltonboy wondered: 'Did Monty Don get dressed in the dark?' while another, @notsupermum wrote: 'Monty Don looks like he's been forced to wear his dad's demob suit because he doesn't have one.'
An acerbic @markedmo wrote: 'You could put Monty Don in a £2000 suit and he would still look like a bag of spuds.'
@catherine_hann described him as looking like an 'antique teddy bear, even in a suit'.
In recent years, Don, who was born in West Berlin but grew up in Hampshire, has favoured a loose-fitting linen-style navy blue suit.
Traditionally, Monty has preferred a more robust - but very crinkly - cotton jacket (Pictured with previous co-hosts, from left: Rachel De Thame, Monty, Carol Klein and Joe Swift)
However, this year the veteran gardening presenter clearly decided to sharpen up his wardrobe. Many viewers couldn't believe the Gardener's World presenter had actually opted for more formal attire.
@Joon123 wrote: 'Good grief! Monty Don in a suit..... *Faints' while @debtex added: 'Nice to see Monty Don in a smart suit instead of that blue thing he always wears!'
This year's horticultural extravaganza opened to the public today after a slew of celebrities including Mary Berry, Joanna Lumley and the Queen and Prince Philip visited the show yesterday.
