Ivory Coast vs Senegal abandoned as crowd trouble spills over with pitch invader TACKLING Lamine Gassama

  • Referee abandoned game after 88 minutes due to worsening crowd trouble
  • Liverpool star Sadio Mane's penalty in the second half gave Senegal the lead
  • Cyriac Gohi Bi equalised only two minutes later to draw Ivory Coast level
  • Crystal Palace's Wilfried Zaha substituted by Ivory Coast after only 58 minutes
  • Manchester United star Eric Bailly also plays full match before abandonment

A friendly match between Ivory Coast and Senegal was abandoned after 88 minutes after crowd trouble spilled onto the pitch with dozens of fans invading the field of play and confronting players.

As the game, played at the Charlety Stadium on the outskirts of Paris, was winding down to a 1-1 draw, a minority of fans started to cause trouble in the stands before evading stewards and entering the field of play.

A group of spectators from outside the ground were photographed vaulting security fences and entered the stadium, presumably without tickets, shortly before trouble began.

With stewards struggling to chase down the pitch invaders, one appeared to rugby tackle Senegal star Lamine Gassama to the ground.

Players were instructed to return to the changing rooms by referee Tony Chapron before the game was officially cancelled two minutes short of full time.

It brought a sour end to a game that had seen Liverpool star Sadio Mane score a penalty for Senegal as he played the full game on Monday evening.

Manchester United's Eric Bailly, Everton's Idrissa Gueye and Crystal Palace's Wilfried Zaha were also playing in the match.

This is the second time in the space of four years that a game between the two nations has ended prematurely due to fan trouble.

In 2012, Senegal were disqualified from the Africa Cup of Nations after a riot saw Missiles, stones, bottles and firecrackers thrown onto the pitch in Dakar.

The match was abandoned after 78 minutes with Ivory Coast leading 2-0.

Zaha tweeted soon after the game but made no reference to the crowd trouble, writing: 'Unbeaten in our last 2 games. Hopefully we can continue this run into the World Cup qualifiers. Thanks for your support.'
