Manchester United face frustration in their reported pursuit of Mateo Kovacic.

The Croat has been linked with a move to Old Trafford after slipping down the pecking order at Real Madrid.

Kovacic spent two years at Inter before joining Real in 2015 and would consider a return.

Manchester United are getting braced for another Real Madrid pursuit of Dave De Gea.

Real had hoped to land De Gea's international team-mate Kepa Arrizabalaga from Athletic Bilbao this month.

But the 23-year-old has penned a bumper seven-year deal at San Mames, with an €80million (£70.5m) buyout clause that Real are likely unwilling to match.

It means that Zinedine Zidane is expected to turn back to the Premier League, with De Gea top of his shopping list.

Real came within seconds of securing a move for De Gea on summer transfer deadline day in 2015 - and they have kept close attention to the goalkeeper's movements since.
