Former Arsenal striker Paul Merson has slammed Arsene Wenger over his transfer work when compared with Tottenham.

The Gunners go to Spurs today with their top four hopes hanging by a thread.

Merson said: “Why weren't Arsenal after the players Pochettino bought?

“Victor Wanyama's got to be better than Granit Xhaka, hasn't he? And he was only playing down the road at Southampton. Same goes for Toby Alderweireld — top defender, there at St Mary's [where he was on loan to Saints before Spurs bought him]. How the hell do you not get him?

"They were under Wenger's nose."

He added: “Only Alexis Sanchez would get in this Spurs team. That's the worry for me."
