Kaka gives City cold shoulder

Kaka gives City cold shoulder

AC Milan star Kaka has been quick to pour cold water on speculation linking him with a big-money switch to Manchester City.

Reports had suggested City were preparing a world-record bid of £100million to secure the services of the talented Brazilian, but the 24-year told told Italian TV station MediaSet, owned by AC Milan president Silvio Berlusconi: "I want to grow old at Milan. My aim is to become, at some point in the future, the captain of this team.

"I know there is a pecking order, with (Paolo) Maldini at the front at then (Massimo) Ambrosini, but after that...

"I have already turned down some major offers."

Kaka confirmed he had received offers but these had been turned down with City understood to have flown a delegation to Milan to sound out a move.

Executive director Garry Cook headed the City contingent and it's believed that Cook was encouraged after meeting with the Serie A club's officials.

However Kaka, whom City were believed to be prepared to pay an astronomical £500,000 a week, was eager to indicate money was not his motivation in football.

His spokesman Diogo Kotscho added: "Kaka wouldn't do anything based on money.

"He would never do something like Robinho, who, just to earn more, contented himself with a solution that was not a winning one."

It was certainly a long shot from City and one which would have come against all the football odds had it come off.
