Thomas Hitzlsperger is set to make an emotional return to Aston Villa, six years after he departed the club to move to VfB Stuttgart. The 29 year old is locked in discussions with Alex McLeish.

Hitzlsperger left West Ham last season on a free transfer, after the club were relegated to the Championship.



The German has been locked in talks with Aston Villa for over a week regarding a contract, with the midfielder looking for a 3 year deal as opposed to the 2 year offer Villa are currently offering.



However, the player is expected to complete a move at the start of next week.



UPDATE: The player has chosen a move to Wolfsburg instead of Aston Villa.
