Ten Cate talking to Chelsea

08 October 2007 - 18:45

Ajax have reached an agreement with Chelsea over the transfer of Henk ten Cate to the Premier League club. The Dutchman has been credited with moulding the tactical system which turned Frank Rijkaard's Barcelona into Europe's most attractive team in recent years. The Ajax coach is wanted by Avram Grant to become part of his backroom team at Stamford Bridge, and act primarily as his assistant.

  • Arsenal suffer big injury blow ahead of Fulham game
  • The imminent departure of Steve Clarke means there is a gap for a number 2 for Avram Grant.

A statement on Ajax's official website said: "Following talks with Chelsea, Ajax have agreed the direct transfer of Henk ten Cate to Chelsea.

"Last week, Ten Cate informed the club he wanted us to negotiate with Chelsea after he had been approached personally. Ajax discussed it internally and it is now down to Henk ten Cate to discuss his own contract with Chelsea."
