Derbyshire gives U-21 win

12 October 2007 - 22:33

England U-21's defeated Montenegro 1-0 at The Walkers Stadium tonight thanks to the only goal of the game, which came from Blackburn striker Matt Derbyshire. Stuart Pearce's men now have a 100 percent record in their campaign.

  • England took the lead after 20 minutes when the busy Milner threaded a superb ball through the Montenegro defence to Derbyshire and he made no mistake in slotting the ball beyond Janjusevic.

Joe Hart had little to do in the England goal throughout the game as England took the game from the scruff of the neck. One worry for England was that Andrew Surman limped off after half an hour with an injury.

Tom Huddlestone's set-pieces gave Montenegro problems throughout the game, but one goal would have to be enough for England.

Huddlestone and Milner both went close, and Onouha went even closer later on as he headed against the post.
