AC Milan looking at Del Piero

AC Milan looking at Del Piero

21 October 2011 - 16:47

AC Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani stated that it is 'never too late' to sign Juventus icon Alessandro Del Piero, hinting that Milan could sign him in case he chooses against retirement.

  • Chelsea to move for former Arsenal goalkeeper?
  • Arsenal handed huge boost ahead of Bournemouth clash

  • Del Piero is in the last year of his Juventus contract and the club have announced that he will not sign an extension.

Galliani is said to be a known admirer of the Italian forward, having previously tried to sign him from Padova in 1993.

“Is it never too late? I have learned to define players as talented or mediocre, not young or old,” he told Sky Sport Italia. “I always prefer a talent to a youngster.

“After all, many of our stars like Paolo Maldini and Billy Costacurta retired at 40. Pippo Inzaghi is 38 and still playing for us.”

“We nearly signed Del Piero in 1993 and failing to do that remains one of the great regrets of my career,” admitted the 67-year-old.

“The fact remains that before he went to Juve, Milan were interested in the player.”

Del Piero is Juventus' highest capped player, having made over 680 appearances and scoring 285 goals for the Turin giants.
