Wenger: Giggs should be Olympic captain

22 October 2011 - 07:57

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger does not want any of his young players to play for Team GB at the 2012 London Olympics, but thinks Ryan Giggs would be the perfect choice for team captain.

  • Fabrizio Romano updates on Nicolas Jackson's future at Chelsea
  • Arsenal suffer big injury blow ahead of Fulham game
  • Giggs is one of several players outside of England's national team that would not be busy playing in Euro 2012 next summer.

Subsequently, Wenger thinks Giggs would be perfect for Team Great Britain: "I think it's good if Great Britain does well at the Olympic Games but we have to find a common, sensible solution to the use of the players.

"I would be happy that Giggs plays. Not because he plays for Man United but because I think Giggs has never had the chance to play at international top level tournaments. So for him it would be something fantastic and he's still good enough to do it."
